Europe’s best competitive gamers were in Cologne, Germany, for the Samsung European Encounter (SEE), a three-day eSports event that is part of the annual Gamescom convention. Samsung partnered with World Cyber Gaming for the event, and provided €10,000 in prize money for three separate tournaments: Dota 2, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, and FIFA 12.

Western Wolves sent three of their finest into battle: Swedish StarCraft II sensation Rickard “SortOf” Bergman, Bulgarian FIFA12  footballer Krasimir “Krasi” Ivanov, and Romania’s finest FIFA12  player, Ovidiu “Ovvy” Patrascu.

StarCraft II:

Friday afternoon, Rickard “SortOf” Bergman finished second in his group and advanced to the playoff stage, defeating Makouni and DeViL along the way. His only loss in the first stage came at the hands of DeMusliM. In the playoff stage, SortOf faced RoxKis’ sLivko, the same man that eliminated SortOf at Intel Extreme Masters Season VII – Global Challenge Cologne. This time the result favored SortOf, who won two straight sets to advance to the next round.

Unfortunately, Bergman could not top team Acer’s Polish champion, Nerchio, and was knocked into the losers bracket, where he met eSports icon Grubby. After two thrilling games, Grubby eliminated SortOf for good, leaving the Western Wolves’ star in fourth place overall.

FIFA 12:

In the world’s most popular sports title, Krasimir “Krasi” Ivanov and Ovidiu “Ovvy” Patrascu brought the Western Wolves flag into battle and dominated the competition, with Ovvy winning the tournament and walking away with the €1,000 grand prize.

Both players saw success in the group stage, with Ovvy and Krasi finishing in first and second place, granting them each high seeds in the playoffs. Krasi went on to score a significant victory over former World Cyber Games champion, Deto, 2-0. In Ovvy’s first playoff match he eliminated former LowLandLions member k0entj92 two matches to none. Krasi ultimately fell to Bartas, 2-0, in the semi-final round, earning him 4th place overall. However Ovvy’s day was not yet over, as he was able to defeat France’s Spank and advance to the finals. In the grand championship, Ovvy defeated Bartas 2-0 to not only avenge Krasi’s loss, but to win the entire tournament!
