I’ll be jetting off to Tokyo early next week to prepare for next weekend’s TOUGEKI – Super Battle Opera, or SBO for short. SBO is widely known as the biggest fighting-game event in the Eastern hemisphere and is truly a global event with players from all over the world attending. SBO is traditionally an arcade machine-based tournament and event, although much like the EVO series in 2004, SBO this year made the change to also include console-based tournaments.

Mad Catz Japan yesterday announced through TOUGEKI’s parent company Enterbrain, that we are the official FightStick and controller of the event!
The MLG Pro Circuit Controller for PlayStation 3 is the official controller, and the SOULCALIBUR V Arcade FightStick SOUL Edition is the official arcade stick of TOUGEKI. The controller’s recommendation stemmed from the EVO 2012 SOULCALIBUR V champion, Shining Decopon, who prefers controllers over arcade sticks.
Mad Catz is an official sponsor of the event and we’ll be supporting the gaming community that shows up in a big way. We’ll have a booth showing off our latest products available in Japan, including the MLG Pro Circuit Controller, SOULCALIBUR V FightStick, Street Fighter X Tekken range of products, and more. Our newly appointed intern here at Mad Catz will also be at the event! One of the most renowned gamers in the fighting-game scene, Marie-Laure Norindr, known to most of the world as “Kayane,” will be participating in the main TOUGEKI tournament and playing in exhibition matches at the Mad Catz booth!

TOUGEKI/SBO starts next weekend, August 4, in Japan. Some of the event will be live streamed (for free) via Nico Nico, while the entire experience will be pay per view.
