| Q: |
My Gameshark hardware device is not detected through the USB cable. How do I fix this? |
| A: |
1. Completely uninstall the Gameshark program from the PC and reinstall the software. This can be done using the “Add or Remove Programs” selection within the “Control Panel”. Do not have the hardware or the USB cable plugged in during the installation process.
2. After the program has been reinstalled, plug in the hardware along with the USB cable into a USB port on the PC. If the "Install Wizard" shows up on the screen, immediately proceed to step 6.
3. Run the Gameshark program from the shortcut on your desktop and check if the reinstall properly fixed your driver issue. If the reinstallation did not work, continue on with the steps below.
4. On your desktop, you will find an icon called "My Computer". Right click onto this icon and select "Properties". The next window to appear will be the "System Properties". Depending on the Windows operating system you are using, you might be able to select the “Device Manager” option right away. If not, select the tab labeled "Hardware" and then select the "Device Manager" on the screen.
* If you do not have the “My Computer” icon on your desktop, click on the “Start Tab” of the lower left corner on the desktop, move to “Settings” with the mouse, and select “Control Panel”. Under the “Control Panel” window, choose the icon called “System” to access the “Device Manager”.
5. Under the "Device Manager" screen, you will see a list of all the devices installed on the PC. Because the drivers for the USB cable are not properly installed, you should see either a (?) or (!) symbol on this list, usually next to a device related to the USB. Double click onto this symbol and a Hardware Wizard will appear.
6. Choose to install new drivers for the device. You will get to a screen that will ask where you wish to find the drivers to install. Choose to "Install from a list or specific location". Then choose "Include this location in this search" and click the "Browse" option.
7. A list should now appear showing all of the directories on your computer. Find the directory of your CD drive, and make sure the Gameshark software disc is inside the drive. When you expand the CD drive list on the directory (do this by left clicking the [+] box next to it), you should be able to find a folder called "Drivers". Highlight "Drivers" and click "OK" on the bottom of the window.
8. The Install Wizard should then begin to install these drivers to the Gameshark program. If you get a message that says that Windows has not verified the drivers you are installing, choose to continue with the installation. The drivers from the software will not harm any of the programs you currently have on the PC.
9. Once the Wizard has finished the installation, close it out and run the Gameshark PC program once more. The hardware device should now be recognized through the USB cable.
